Pax Lodge (England)

Our next World Centre we are going to visit is Pax Lodge.
This week we are going to visit London!
This week all you need from your activity bag is your decafe tea bag and find your favourite tea cup in your house.
We will have a time during the meeting when you will boil the water and steep the tea.

London is the city that Jacquie has visited the most and the longest and she will be the tour guide today.
She was lucky enough to visit the city with Girl Guides as well.
We watched the PowerPoint.

Our Chalet and our trip to Switzerland

This week we continue our trip to World Centres to Our Chalet in Switzerland.
Our special guest is Karin. She is from a region in Switzerland called Appenzell.

She taught us to yodel!

Time for our edible craft! Tonight we are making chocolate fondue.
Switzerland is well known for it's excellent chocolate. Karin says it's because the cows produce such good milk which makes good chocolate.
You can dip almost everything! Prepare your extras before you start melting the chocolate.
Instructions for melting your chocolate chips-
Put your bowl of chocolate chips in the microwave.  Melt on high for 30 seconds. When the microwave stops, STIR with a small spoon.
Melt for the second time on high for 30 seconds. When the microwave stops, STIR again. It should be slightly melted now.
For the last time set the microwave on high for 30 seconds. When the microwave stops, STIR and all the chocolate should be melted.

We are lucky to have another Guiding World Centre in this country.
It is called Our Chalet. It is in Adelboden ( a town south of Bern, the capital city).

Welcome to Our Chalet video

You can travel there with a group or apply to go as a participant on your own.
Like all World Centres,  you can even volunteer there.

Tonight our special song is Once An Austrian Went Yodelling!
First let's learn about a the dog that is found in the Alps.

Here is this week's song. It has many different verses but let's stick to the ones on here for this week.

One of the things that is done during festivals is to decorate elephants.
This week our craft is making an elephant finger puppet.
Here is a festival with painted elephants

CRAFT-
You will need needle, scissors, glue, grey felt pieces, white fun foam piece, two goggle eyes and self-adhesive decorations.

Cut out your elephant head out with scissors and thread your needle with grey thread.
From the white fun foam, cut two tusks.

SEW around the outside the two identical body pieces with grey thread.

Here is a closer view of the stitching.

Glue to the underside of the head, a tusk on each side.

Then stitch or glue the head on top of the finger area.
PEEL the decorations off their backing and then stick to the elephant to decorate it like it was a festival.

During the last few months one positive thing I have found is the dancing of Gurdeep.
He lives in the Yukon and everyday he posts a video of him doing bhangra.
The bhangra is  type of popular dance music combining Punjabi folk traditions with Western pop music.
Get ready to dance

If you want to try something new how about making your own chai?
Chai is a popular hot drink in India.
Here is video on how to make chai
Here is the recipe

Next week we find our way to Our Chalet!
